laundry room {after}

 This “makeover” wasn’t t something that I planned on doing, it sort of just happened. It’s been on my to-do list for a while now, but it became one of those things that I kept putting off. Then, our dryer stopped working a few weeks months ago. I didn’t mind, because that meant I got to hang my clothes out on the line…something I’ve kind of always wanted to do.

When I was younger my neighbor had a clothesline and I’ve been fascinated with them ever since. We looked at a house that had one and I was totally swayed into wanting it more than I probably really did.  So, my dream came true and I finally got to have a “clothesline”! I love the way my laundry smells when it’s been hung outside to dry. The only thing that bothers me about it is being paranoid every time someone sneezes. I don’t want people to be allergic to me!

Anyway, last weekend, I finally decided to take the dryer apart to figure out what was wrong with it. I took off the back and discovered a broken belt. Since the only store that carried the belt I needed was closed, it would have to wait until Monday. Well, one thing led to another. Since I had the dryer pulled out from the wall, I decided it would be a good time to finish painting. I had repainted the laundry room last year, but never got around to painting behind the washer and dryer. Once that was done, I was motivated to clean and reorganize everything. I pulled everything out of there and got to work.

Even with a bright color on the walls and a new rug, it still was bothering me that you could see the outdated washer and dryer from the entryway. I’ve seen where people have painted their old appliances, (that looked to complicated to me) but then I came across this and pinned it for later.

Now, I just needed to find some curtains.  Did you know a twin flat sheet is 96 inches? And that you can find them at Wal-Mart for $5? I picked up two and planned on sewing tabs onto the tops until discovering this GENIUS idea.

Much prettier, right!?

Now that the ugliness was hidden, I took off the cabinet doors to make it easier to get things in and out of there. This cabinet wasn’t in that bad of shape to start out with so I just cleaned it up a little.

Next, I also moved all of our cleaning supplies from the coat closet to the laundry room. Over the door hooks are a great way to add extra storage and keeps things hidden. I just attached binder clips to all my brooms and mops and hung them behind the door. The battery powered vacuum kept me from opening the door all the way, so I just added Velcro to the base to keep it flush against the handle. Problem solved!

This is the view into the laundry room from the entryway.

See how the laundry room is one of the first things you would notice when walking into our house? Now I don’t mind keeping the door open! I tend to gravitate to darker colors so it’s fun to have a bright and colorful room.

And, because we all love a good before and after...
