Building our Home {PART 1}

I wanted to do a quick update on where we are in our building process. We found our lot on Craigslist several months ago, and it officially became ours on June 17th! You can see how overgrown it is in the picture below and how much work was require before we could begin building.
After choosing the lot, we met with our floor plan designer and discussed with her what we were wanting. We ended up working with a friend of mine that does that for a living. She did such a wonderful job capturing exactly what we were envisioning and was more than patient with us as we made changes. Below is the preliminary plan that she came up with for us. The only major thing we changed with the layout is the storage room on the back corner. It blocked the view from the back porch and cut off the path to the back door from the driveway, so we decided to get rid of it completely.

 While she was working on the plans, we began clearing the lot in preparation for the foundation to be poured. This is a picture from the listing, but it was far more overgrown at the time we purchased it.

After some sweat equity, we could finally begin to visualize where our house was going to be located. Here’s what it looked like after several days of work and 24 loads of dirt.

The foundation was poured on September 17th. Don’t you just love all of the trees!? We are in the middle of town, situated in a quiet neighborhood, near a lake with a beautiful park, and just couldn’t be happier with our location!

Next up, the framers got started. This part of the process was so exciting. One week you have a big block of concrete and the next week, there is an actual house. It has been so fun to watch our home be built from the ground up! I can’t image the level of excitement once all the little details start to come to life.

One of my favorite things about our house is all of the windows! This is the view from our office/playroom.

And here we are as of today. The electrician and the framers will hopefully be finishing up early this week and the insulation will be installed by the end of the week if everything goes as planned.

Exciting things happening around here…I’ll be back in a week or two with another update!
